1. Who we are

This app, MacroChef ("MacroChef", "we", "us", "our"), is operated by Macro Chef (ABN 34 710 845 075), a registered business name of a sole trader based in Pacific Pines, QLD 4211, Australia. You can contact us at info@macrochef.com.au.

We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

2. What this policy covers

This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use MacroChef, how we use and share it, how we keep it secure, and how you can access or correct it.

3. Information we collect

Information you give us

• Account details: your email address, username/display name, and password (passwords are stored securely in hashed form by our authentication provider, not in plain text).
• Macro profile: your default nutrition targets, including calories, protein, carbohydrate, fat, fibre, sugar and sodium.
• Dietary profile: allergies, intolerances, dislikes and diet type. This may include health-related information (see "Sensitive information" below).
• Content you submit to create or save recipes: text and captions you paste, recipe website links, photos you upload or capture (including photos of your fridge, freezer and pantry), and videos you upload.
• Recipes you save, your folders, notes and ratings.

Information collected automatically

• Usage data: features used, number of recipe extractions, and your subscription tier.
• Device and technical data: device type, operating system, app version, and basic diagnostic and crash data.

Payment information

We do not collect or store your card details. Subscriptions are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play, and managed by our subscriptions provider RevenueCat. Those parties handle your payment information under their own privacy policies.

Biometric login

If you choose to enable Face ID, Touch ID or fingerprint login, this is handled entirely by your device's operating system. We never receive, see or store your biometric data.

4. Sensitive information

Your dietary profile (such as allergies and intolerances) may be "sensitive information" under the Privacy Act. We collect it only with your consent and only to provide the app's features (for example, adapting recipes and flagging conflicting ingredients). You can edit or delete this information at any time in the app. You do not have to provide it, but some features will be limited if you don't.

5. How we use your information

We use your information to:

• create, extract, generate and adjust recipes and shopping lists;
• estimate and recalculate macros;
• apply your macro and dietary profiles;
• save and organise your recipes;
• manage your account, subscription and usage limits;
• show rewarded ads to free users and unlock additional extractions;
• provide support, improve the app, fix bugs, and keep it secure;
• comply with our legal obligations.

6. Artificial intelligence processing

MacroChef uses Google's Gemini AI to read, extract, generate and adjust recipes. When you submit content (text, links, photos or videos) or ask for a recipe, that content is sent to Google for processing and a recipe is returned. This processing is necessary to provide the core features of the app. Google handles this data under its own terms and privacy policy. Nutrition figures are then calculated using public food composition databases, including the USDA (U.S. Department of Agriculture) FoodData Central and the Australian Food Composition Database (AFCD), with AI filling any gaps. Only ingredient names and quantities are used for these lookups, not your personal details.

7. Who we share your information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:

• Google (Gemini AI): to process your content and generate recipes and macros.
• Clerk (our authentication provider): to create and secure your account, log you in, and reset passwords.
• RevenueCat: to manage subscriptions and entitlements.
• Google AdMob: to serve rewarded ads to free users.
• Sentry: to collect crash and error reports so we can diagnose and fix problems (configured to avoid collecting your personal content).
• Apple App Store / Google Play: to process payments and subscriptions.
• Service providers who host our backend and database and provide analytics, under confidentiality obligations.
• Authorities or third parties where required or authorised by law.

8. Overseas disclosure

Some of these providers (including Google, Clerk, RevenueCat, Sentry and our hosting provider) store and process data on servers located outside Australia, including in the United States and other countries. By using MacroChef you acknowledge that your information may be processed overseas. We take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled consistently with the APPs.

9. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access, including encryption in transit, encrypted password storage, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the app. If you delete your account, we will delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it by law.

11. Accessing and correcting your information

You can view and edit most of your information directly in the app. You can also ask us to access or correct your personal information, or delete your account, by contacting info@macrochef.com.au. We will respond in accordance with the APPs.

12. Analytics and cookies

The app and any related website may use analytics and similar technologies to understand usage and improve the product. You can control some of this through your device settings.

13. Children

MacroChef is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version in the app with a new "last updated" date, and where appropriate notify you.
